About the event
America's older adult population is becoming increasingly diverse. Today, approximately one in four older adults belongs to a historically underrepresented population, and this proportion is expected to continue growing significantly over the coming decades. Understanding the unique health, cultural, and social needs of these communities is essential for providing compassionate, person-centered care.
This workshop provides caregivers with a high-level overview of the health profiles and caregiving considerations for diverse senior populations in the United States. Drawing on research from universities, government agencies, and other respected organizations, the workshop examines the unique needs of African Americans, American Indians and Alaska Natives, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, Hispanic and Latino Americans, LGBTQ+ older adults, and U.S. Veterans.
